Milwaukee’s NPS19 new tool media event is just one day away. Tomorrow, Thursday, 6/6/19, Milwaukee will be showing off many of the new tools they have been working on, including any new cordless power tools innovations and updates, power tool accessories, tool storage products, and even hand tools.
In the past, we’ve thought long and hard about we predicted we would see, and now is that time once again.
One line keeps ringing in memory. A few years ago, between NPS15 and NPS16, a group of Milwaukee PR and product associates traveled to some parts of the country to introduce their new cordless nailers. At that time, they said that Milwaukee will be hitting carpentry and remodeling tool markets hard. And they have, with new brushless jig saws, a backpack vacuum, cordless miter saws, a cordless table saw, and a number of other handy tools.
But there are still holes in Milwaukee’s M18 cordless power tool lineup.
What about an M18 cordless air compressor?
Are the Gen-2 cordless nailers ready yet? Will Milwaukee be coming out with a larger nailer, such as a framer? Or going smaller, such as with a 23 gauge pin nailer?
We’ve started to see new Imperial Blades oscillating multi-tool accessories. Now’s a good time for an M18 Fuel oscillating multi-tool, maybe even an M12 Fuel model, of course supported by new Milwaukee oscillating multi-tool blades and accessories. Or, maybe they’ll be supported by Imperial Blade accessories. Either way, I expect to see both.
What about a new M18 Fuel large-size miter saw? They have a 10″ and a 7-1/4″. That larger saw might be due for an update, or maybe we’ll see a new 12″ size?
I don’t quite think we’ll see a 10″ table saw, however. Unless… Milwaukee announces a new battery system update where you can harness the capabilities of 2 or more Li-ion battery packs.
Milwaukee very much believes in their “everything fits” philosophy. Their High Output battery packs can deliver a great amount of energy to very demanding and power-hungry cordless power tools. But how do you get them to deliver even more? You pair them up.
It’s possible that Milwaukee will finally announce a battery-multiplier system and sub-category of tools. The 8-1/4″ table saw runs effortlessly on a High Output battery. But how would a 10″ table saw perform? Or a 12″ miter saw?
I’m not convinced about a multi-battery sub-system within the Milwaukee M18 cordless power tool lineup. Even if it’s something they do come out with, it makes sense that the High Output batteries came first. The potential behind multi-battery tools would allow for the highest tier of performance, but also runtime.
Single-battery vacuums work alright. But what if you want a fully-featured dust collector? Maybe even one that could power cordless tools that are attached for automatic activation?
For the past few years, we have seen progressions in Milwaukee M18 cordless power tool battery technology. What are we in for this year?
Although many users have grown their cordless power tool collections, what about that air compressor they like to use? The dust vac? Air cleaner? Hammer drill? Halogen lighting? Maybe this is the year we see a Milwaukee M18 battery-equipped portable power source. Ooh, and in a Packout rolling tool box?
There’s space for a new line of Milwaukee cordless sanders. Larger battery packs aren’t quite well-matched to smaller sanders, but the same can’t be said about wall and ceiling prep tools.
Readers have been asking for an M12 Fuel Surge impulse driver. Honestly, I’m 50:50 on this. I’m not convinced that it’s something Milwaukee will seek to bring to market.
We could potentially see a Milwaukee cordless metal-cutting chop saw or multi-material saw, perhaps similar to Makita’s 18V X2 abrasive saw, or at least I don’t see why not.
Maybe a cordless router? A few years ago, Milwaukee said that they would enter and grow product categories that made sense for them, and where they could bring improvement. I don’t remember the context, but it seemed their corded routers fit the “we’re not interested in me-too” category. However, times have changed, and users want a cordless router. A cordless router table with built-in motor would be nice, but I don’t think that’s very likely.
A cordless track saw would be nice, but how would they take on market giants, such as Festool?
